Reading “Orthodoxy” by Chesterton right now. I was writing down all the great quotes and I realized that I was going to have to write down the whole book…..holy crap! Awesome stuff- here is a sampling:
“This theory of a complete change in standards in human history does not merely deprive us of the pleasure of honoring our fathers; it deprives us even of the more modern and aristocratic pleasure of despising them.”
“The new rebel is a sceptic and will not entirely trust anything. He has no loyalty; therefore he can never really be a revolutionist. The fact that he doubts everything gets in the way of his ability to denounce anything. ”
As a politician he will cry out that war is a waste of life, and then, as a philosopher, that all life is waste of time.”
“In short, the modern revolutionist, being an infinite sceptic is always engaged in undermining his own mines.”
“If Nietzsche had not ended in imbecility, Nietzscheism would end in imbecility.”
And I am only about 25% of the way through….
