Iconography

June 12, 2010

The oldest icon of Christ Pantocrator, encaustic on panel, c. 6th century (Saint Catherine's Monastery, Mount Sinai).

I am a presbyterian and I am therefore not much for icons. But I saw this one and found it to be amazingly beautiful. It is sixth century. The two fingers Christ is holding up is the symbol for “I want to have a conversation.”
