They had conspiracy theorists back then too…

Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. – Isaiah 8:12

Isaiah and the people of Israel were in for years of war. He was writing from the 8th century BC. He would live to see the fall of the northern kingdom of Israel. Soon after the southern kingdom would fall. The people of God would go into exile. Upon returning, they would be ruled by the Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians, Greeks and Romans. But God said to Isaiah that he need not fear what everyone else fears. He says that Isaiah should only fear God.

The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread… (Isaiah 8:13)

Because when you fear God, you need fear no one else. There is a strength that goes deeper than the power of this world. And because God is good, our fear of him is not like our fear of the oppressor. Instead, he told Isaiah that when we fear God, he will be our “sanctuary”.
